Influenced by Van Gogh (and Abstract Expressionism), Klee, Dubuffet, surrealism, dada, pop art, Rauschenberg, jimi hendrix and high-energy jazz (e.g., Coltrane).
I try to use materials which I consider to represent the basic building blocks of industrial culture, and incorporate them into my paintings. I use high-energy in my paintings to represent life's energy. In my three dimensional work, I try to use my own crude carpentry to build the infrastructure. Concept is important, but for me, the work must also show the hand of the artist. I disdain the slick and polished in favor of my own primitive techniques which I have developed
over the last 36 years
BFA - studied with John Grillo (a student of Hans Hoffamn) I've had a few small, local exhibitions (e..g, a corridor at Boston City Hall). Some contemporary gallery directors in the 70's (like Gillian Levine at the ICA in Boston and Carl Belz at the Rose Art Gallery at Brandeis) came to workspace to see my work (after viewing slides) and were encouraging. Helen Shlein at her gallery in Boston also was encouraging
